How to search 3SI.org for information

3si-white2.jpg3SI (3000GT/Stealth International) is the most popular forum for 3S enthusiasts. With millions of posts and 28,000+ members, you can find a lot of great information including guides, part numbers, tips and tricks, and sources for parts. I’ll explain how to search 3SI to tap into this knowledge pool.

To get started, register @ 3si.org. This is quick and simple. They do not allow you to use *most* free web-based email services to register. You can use your ISP’s email address (Charter, Comcast, etc) or sign up for a free account at mail.d00m.com.

Access the forums at 3si.org/forum and login on the upper right-hand side. Click “search” which is located on the menu bar below login.

You will be prompted with a “Quick Search” popup. In general, you want to keep the search terms general to produce more results. How the poster spells/words certain things affect the search results. Vbulletin uses keyword matching to list results. For example, if you’re looking for information on a TD04 15G turbo upgrade, use the search terms (in quotes) “15G upgrade”. This will yield the most relevant results. Another useful thing to search for is part numbers. If you have an ECU you want to find out more about, simply type in the part number beginning with “MD.”

For more advanced searching capabilities, use advanced search under the search popup:

In the advanced search interface, you can search for posts by a particular username, search for keywords under a particular forum or sub-forum, and sort search results by date.

If you cannot find what you need, sometimes it helps to charge your search terms (ex. “transmission removal” versus “removing tranny”) .
